Ishwar Parvati Ganesha Temple

According to Shanta Pradurbhava, Shanta requested Anirudh to make Nagve his permanent abode. Granting his request Shri Narayan made Nagve his permanent abode and lived there with Mahalakshmi( in the form of Mahamaya), along with Ishwar, Ravalnath and Santeri.

Ishwar and Parvati are in Saumya Bhava in this temple with Shiva in Lingodhbhava Murthy form.

Ishwar Parvati ( When Parvati’s idol was added is not clear.) Temple is on the northern side of the Main Temple near the Hanuman Katta. This Temple can be accessed from the northern door in front of the Northern side-entrance to the Sanctum Sanctorum of the Main Temple. The Temple Kalyani (the holy pond) is in front of this Temple.

The Ganesha Idol was alsonot part of this Temple in Nagve. This idol is reported to have been found in the Kalyani and was installed in this Temple.

Mahadev was an important deity for Nagvekars when they were part of Kaivalya Mutt. There is a reference to Nagve in Skanda Purana – Sahyadri Kanda (NAGAVYHAYA MAHATMYA  ). According to this the naga population of this area, under constant attack from garudas, prayed to Mahadev to help them. Mahadev helped them by ridding the place of Garudas and made this his abode and stayed there with Parvati. ( A similar but slightly different story exists in Shiva Purana also.) At best what is stated in Sahyadri Kanda is allegorical!

His consort Parvati, also, is an important deity for the Shenvis. Most of the Temples in Goa has Parvati in different forms(Durga) as the presiding Deity. Our forefathers retained these deities even after we embraced Madhva Parampara.
